Watershed Survey (cont.)

Lake restoration, if required, involves corrective actions (Implementation Plans) to make the lake’s health better as identified. Crescent Lake is currently due for both a Watershed Survey and Watershed-based Protection Plan.

Crescent Lake is “sensitive” to additional phosphorus inputs (most damaging pollutant) due to the threats in the watershed from runoff. The CLWA would appreciate your help in donating funds over the next two years to cover the costs of a Watershed Survey (Phase One, $10,000; complete) to be conducted in 2024 and a Watershed-based Protection Plan (Phase Two, $10,000) to be developed in 2025 for a total of @ $20,000.

A well-managed Crescent Lake will continue to provide recreational opportunities (fishing, swimming, and boating, etc.), two public beaches, and a public boat ramp. It will help ensure businesses such as the camps, campground, and rental properties continue to exist and provide economic benefits to the local area. Additionally, the water quality of the lake directly affects property values, the towns’ tax base, and the drinking water. Crescent Lake flows into Panther Pond, which flows into Sebago Lake, a public drinking water source for nearly 1/6 of Maine’s population. The ecological, social, and economic benefits of a healthy lake can span generations!
